When Snapchat was first launched, it seemed like a novelty, but apparently it had enough potential for Facebook to offer the company a whopping $3 billion to acquire them, which the company turned down. Fast forward to today, it looks like the app is growing and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.
Recently during the Advertising Week event in New York, the company’s chief strategy officer Imran Khan revealed that the app is now boasting a very impressive count of 60 million daily active users just in the US and Canada alone. We can only imagine that if we were to combine it with other markets around the world, that number would be a lot higher.
Facebook’s daily user count is around 175 million in the same region, and while that number is obviously higher, Snapchat’s existence is considerably shorter than that of Facebook, and at the rate they’re going, we wouldn’t be surprised if they were to catch up pretty soon. That being said, we reckon the company will probably still need to take a while to catch up to WhatsApp, which last we checked boasted 1 billion users (total, not daily active).
Snapchat has recently rebranded itself to Snap Inc., and has also revealed a new product in the form of a pair of smart glasses called Spectacles.
