Back in May, Twitter announced that they would be making some changes to its platform in which they would expand the 140 character tweet. Twitter’s 140 character limit is kind of the platform’s trademark, but we guess they reckon that users have more to say so instead of breaking it up into multiple tweets, why not just expand the character limit, right?
It was unclear as to when this new feature would launch, but a new report from The Verge has pegged the date for the 19th of September, which is basically next Monday. They were told this date from two sources, although the publication notes that this could change so don’t get your hopes up just yet.
In case you’re unfamiliar with this upcoming change, the 140 character limit is basically still in place. However users who attach media such as image files, videos, and polls will not have those attachments count towards the character limit. Users will also be able to quote other tweets without it counting towards the limit as well, so essentially users will have a bit more breathing room when it comes to composing their thoughts.
We have to say that while the 140 character limit looks restrictive, it does help to make posts by users more concise which is something we have appreciate, versus having to read a wall of text. In any case take it with a grain of salt but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for the changes.
