GoPro has teased its Karma drone on several occasions in the past and today the company finally launched its first drone ever. GoPro cameras are often attached to drones to capture amazing footage so it makes perfect sense for the company to make one on its own. The GoPro Karma drone promises portability and robust performance for a price lower than what comparable drones from DJI cost.
GoPro Karma is a portable drone as it features foldable wings which make it very easy to carry the drone in its own backpack that it ships with. This makes it possible for users to take it along even on a ski trip.
It’s versatile as well. The drone’s three-axis camera stabilizer which according to GoPro offers “Hollywood caliber stabilization,” can be taken off the drone and used with GoPro’s Karma Grip for stabilized shooting on the go. This is similar to what DJI is offering with its gimbals.
The drone also ships with a touchscreen controller which makes it possible to control the GoPro Karma without having to take a smartphone or tablet with you for just this purpose. GoPro Karma price is $799 and it’s compatible with the company’s Hero4 and Hero5 action cameras. Sales start October 23rd.
