There are only a handful of applications that have hit the one billion downloads milestone on the Google Play Store. A couple of them belong to Google and some others to Facebook. Another Facebook-owned service now sees its app hit one billion downloads on the Play Store. It’s Instagram, the photo sharing service that took the world by storm a few years ago and was subsequently acquired by the world’s leading social network.
Instagram happens to be Facebook’s fourth app to hit this milestone. Previous entries in the three comma club include Facebook’s main app, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger. Instagram is certainly joining a distinguished company after achieving this milestone.
Bear in mind though that this doesn’t mean that Instagram has one billion users. Estimates suggest that its actual user base is around 500 million but from the looks of it, the download counter does not differentiate between unique installs.
Instagram is now the 19th app to achieve this major milestone and becoming one of the very few apps available in the Google Play Store that have been downloaded more than one billion times. Which app do you think is going to enter this exclusive club next, could it be Twitter or Snapchat?
