It seems that Microsoft’s decision to make Windows 10 a free upgrade (at least for the first year) was a great idea because adoption has come along really well. The platform has been doing decently around the world and if we were to take a closer look at more specific markets, like the gaming market, it looks like Windows 10 is doing well for itself as well.
According to the latest stats, it seems that Windows 10 now accounts for nearly half of the computers running Steam. The numbers reveal that Windows 10 makes up 44.46%. Earlier this year in February, it was revealed that Windows 10’s user base was around the 30% mark and just last month, the platform managed to surpass Windows 7 which had been the most popular platform for the longest time ever (despite it being older than Windows 8/8.1).
Like we said, chances are the fact that Microsoft decided to give Windows 10 away probably helped with its adoption. After all not many users would probably see the need to upgrade if they had to pay for it. That and the fact that Microsoft seemed to address many of the issues that users had with Windows 8/8.1.
That being said, users who have yet to upgrade to Windows 10, don’t worry as you still have time to take advantage of the offer. The free upgrade offer will be valid until the 29th of July, so you’ve still got a few weeks left to decide.
