So what so next-gen about this platform? According to Volkswagen’s press release, together with LG they will be “Developing technologies that bring together the connected car and the smart home so that drivers are able to control and monitor smart devices in their homes — such as lights, security systems and domestic appliances — from out on the road.”
Basically it sounds like while you drive, you get to control some appliances in your home with your car’s infotainment system. We’re not sure how different this is from using your phone and an accompanying smartphone app, but maybe it could be automated, like when your car pulls up to your driveway your garage door could open, your lights could turn itself on, and so on.
It’s an interesting but novel idea, but we suppose as things in our lives start to get more connected, it would make sense for all of them to be able to speak to each other as opposed to being standalone.
