That being said, could smartphones be further innovated upon? According to a recent interview with Tim Cook on CNBC’s Mad Money, the company’s CEO revealed that they had “great innovation” in the works. He was quoted as saying, “We’ve got great innovation in the pipeline. New iPhones that will incentivize you and other people that have iPhones today to upgrade to new iPhones. We are going to give you things you can’t live without that you just don’t know you need today.”
This seems to go against earlier reports that suggested that the iPhone 7 might not be as attractive in terms of features, and that Apple could be saving some of the phone’s “killer” features for the iPhone 8, forgoing the need for an iPhone 7s. Of course whether or not that is true remains to be seen, but if anything Apple’s latest financial report does seem to corroborate the claims that maybe the public is starting to grow a little bored by the iPhone.
Interestingly enough the iPhone SE appears to be doing quite well with demand apparently exceeding its supply. In any case we guess we’ll have to wait and see what Apple has in store for us later this year.
