If there is a reason why many aspiring actors and actresses come to Hollywood, it is because that is where most of the movie magic tends to happen. Sure, there are plenty of good movies made in other parts of the world, but suffice to say that many classics and huge modern day hits do take place in the US.
However the EU isn’t too thrilled by it and according to a report from Reuters, they are planning to rewrite their broadcasting rules which could affect streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. The idea is that these new rules will ensure that more locally-made content will show up in these company’s catalogues.
There have been some complaints in the past about how not all of Netflix’s shows in the US have made its way to other markets, and this is largely due to licensing issues. However with the EU rewriting the broadcast rules, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video’s catalogue in the EU could soon contain content that is at least 20% EU-made.
Unsurprisingly Netflix doesn’t sound too happy with the new rules. According to the company, they claim that adhering to such a strict quota could lead to companies snapping up cheap titles, and that it could also mess up their algorithm when it comes to personalized recommendations, but what do our readers in EU think? Would you like to start seeing more locally-made content show up in Netflix and Amazon Prime Video? Or is Hollywood the main reason you even subscribed to these services in the first place?
