Valve announced the Steam Controller back in 2013, but over the years we have seen the controller undergo several design changes before what was presumably the final design was locked in. One would assume that Valve would be more or less happy with the design so far, but that there are more changes we can expect moving forward.
According to a recent presentation Valve made at GDC, it seems that the company has plans to make some hardware changes to its Steam Controller. No word on when exactly those changes will be made, but it seems that they won’t be particularly drastic and that gamers shouldn’t expect anything too radical.
Valve notes, “In the future we are working on a hardware revision to the controller to improve look and feel, but we’re pretty happy with the feature set we have now and do not intend to drastically change it, or even change it at all.” The company did not dive into any specifics, but hopefully it won’t be too big of a change otherwise first-gen Steam Controller owners probably won’t be too happy about it.
In the meantime, Valve is boasting that they have managed to ship out 400,000 Steam Controllers to date. Just recently the company allowed users to 3D print their own controllers, which in turn should allow gamers to customize their controllers to their liking, at least to a certain extent.
