Last month we reported that Google and Vizio could be teaming up and create televisions that come with Google Cast built into it, the same technology behind Google’s Chromecast devices. Turns out the rumors were true because Google has since announced on their Chrome blog that Vizio’s P-series TVs, soundbars, and speakers will come with Google Cast integrated into them.
So what does this mean? For those unfamiliar with the Chromecast, this is a dongle that users can attach to the HDMI port of their TV. By attaching it, it sort of gives the TV wireless streaming capabilities in which users will be able to stream content from their phone, like YouTube, Netflix, and etc., onto their TV.
Granted there are smart TVs with apps like YouTube on them, but if you don’t have such a device, this affordable feature will come in handy. So with Vizio’s P-series of TVs supporting the technology, users will be able to do the same thing except that they won’t need an external dongle. They will also be able to mirror websites from the Chrome browser onto the TV.
Vizio will be selling its P-series TVs starting at $999 for the 50-inch model, and all of them will be bundled with a 6-inch Full HD Android tablet as a remote. More information about the Vizio P-series can be found on its website.
