Whenever a new movie is released, at least as far as cinema releases are concerned, you will probably have to wait a couple of weeks to several months before it is released on DVD or Blu-ray in which you will then be able to watch it from the comfort of your own home. However Napster’s co-founder Sean Parker has an idea that will deliver brand new movies to your home.
The idea is that instead of viewers having to queue up at cinemas, or rush to make the movie time, they will be able to enjoy the movie from their own home at their own leisure, eat or drink whatever they want, and possibly even have a better experience with an awesome home theater system setup.
The downside is that this feature will cost $50. Dubbed Screening Room, basically it will involve the installation of a special set-top box that will cost $150. This set-top box will let users watch said movie and will have anti-piracy features built into it to prevent users from ripping the movie and uploading it onto torrent websites.
However like we said, it will cost $50 to watch the movie once and it will only be valid for 48 hours. While the idea of being able to watch a brand new movie from your own home sounds appealing, we have to wonder if the price of $50 can be justified. We suppose the upside here is that if you invite enough people over and split the cost, it could end up being a cheaper solution.
Screening Room has yet to be officially announced as apparently talks are still underway with the movie studios, but in the meantime what do you guys think of it? Would you be interested in such a platform?
