Going to the wet market or the farm can be quite an experience as your senses are assaulted from many different directions, but this does not mean that farms are no fun at all. On the contrary, they can be an extremely educational experience, especially for folks who tend to simply purchase their food from supermarket stores in the city. Having said that, INFARM intends to turn the tables at supermarkets – by literally delivering fresh greens and herbs into the supermarket through small, vertical farms.
In other words, your produce is as fresh as it can possibly get, without having to go through the transportation process from the farm to the store. Large-scale vertical urban farms are not viable at many places, but how about scaling things down, just like how INFARM has done?
It has been introduced as “farming as a service,” where INFARM dubs it “the first in-store farm in Europe”, making an appearance at a Berlin METRO supermarket location. As for the mini-farm, it is being known as “Kräuter Garten” (herb garden), where it resembles that of a small greenhouse within the store, letting shoppers take the freshest pick for the day. Pretty cool way of doing your shopping, don’t you think so?
