Right now the Chromecast accessory exists as an external device that users have to plug to their TVs. The upside is that they’re small enough where it won’t really be much of an eyesore, and it also makes it easy to remove and attached to another TV in another room. However all of that could soon change, according to a report from Variety.
The report claims that Google is working with TV maker Vizio to integrate Chromecast inside the TV itself. This means that instead of customers having to buy a separate device, they can buy TVs with the feature built right into it and start using it right away. They won’t even need to fiddle around by setting it up either.
Vizio TVs with the rumored built-in Chromecast is said to be available as early as this spring. Unsurprisingly Google has declined to comment when reached out to by the folks at Variety. However if you’re not a fan of Vizio or would prefer using a different brand, the report goes on to claim that Vizio is just one of the first few companies that Google has approached.
Apparently the company has approached at least one other TV manufacturer, although no names were mentioned. This is actually a pretty good idea and we wouldn’t mind seeing more such functionality built into devices in the future. However take it with a grain of salt, and maybe we will learn more in the coming weeks/months.
