Earlier we reported that Facebook was planning on introducing a new News Feed in which it would be based on a new algorithm that determines what people want to see. This means that despite you subscribing to a bunch of pages, Facebook will determine which it thinks you prefer seeing, and will display that on your News Feed.
Turns out Twitter has something similar in mind. According to a report from BuzzFeed News, they have learnt that Twitter has a similar algorithmic timeline in the works that the company could be rolling out in the near future. Just like Facebook’s News Feed, this new Twitter timeline is said to also display to users what it thinks they will enjoy reading the most.
At this point in time, it is unclear if this new timeline will be the default way of viewing Twitter, or if users will be able to sort it according to their preference. Right now Facebook allows users to sort their News Feed by the most recent or based on the top stories, so presumably Twitter will give users the same control as well.
It has also been reported that this feature has been in the works for a while, and that Twitter has been testing it out with some users, but presumably it has gone well enough for the company to roll it out on a wider scale, so keep an eye out for it in the coming days/weeks.
