Music can bring out all kinds of emotions, ranging from happiness, to anger, to sadness, and more. However if you want to feel good, a company out of Florida called Nervana has apparently created a pair of headphones that can help stimulate the release of dopamine in your brain, thus making you feel pretty damn good about yourself.
According to an interview with Futurism, Nervana’s CEO Ami Brannon had this to say about the headphones. “We have a device that sends an electrical signal through the ear canal to stimulate the release of dopamine in your brain. There’s an electrical signal that’s paired with music. It follows the beat of the music, and it makes it really pleasant. Through a conductive earbud, it sends a message through the vagus nerve in your ear, which sends a message to the brain to release dopamine, your feel-good neurotransmitter that naturally occurs in the brain.”
Now these aren’t your standard pair of headphones. The part that goes into your ear will look like a regular pair of earbuds, however it needs to be accompanied by a generator that supposedly helps the earbuds achieve what the company is advertising. Basically this does not appear to be a particularly compact setup.
The company is planning on launching the headphones later this year where they will retail for $299. Now we can’t speak as to whether or not they are effective at doing what they promise as they have yet to be peer-reviewed, but if they really can do what they say they can, we reckon there will be a lot of interest in it. Either way we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more info.
