Because alphanumeric passwords can be guessed and cracked, it is not surprising that these days more devices are starting to look at biometrics as a way of securely logging into devices and accounts. For example fingerprint security is one of the more popular options these days, although companies like Microsoft are starting to advocate iris scanning tech as well.
However it seems that scientists from the Binghamton University have come up with what they’re calling an unhackable method of logging in, and that is through brain scans. As the name implies, the method of logging in will scan your brain to make sure you are who you say you are. This is done with the user wearing an EEG cap.
The cap will then display 500 different images at a rate of 2 per second, and how your brain responds to these messages will determine your identity. So far based on their testing, the software was successfully able to pick out one person in 30 with 100% accuracy, although if this were to expand to online services, it could get pretty tricky with much more users to choose from.
The researchers claim that so far despite their best attempts, they have been unable to crack it, thus hinting at its security. Of course it will probably be a while before we start seeing this technology become mainstream, because as you can see in the image above, it’s not exactly the most convenient setup.
