If you’re wondering if video streaming, just like music streaming, is here to stay, it certainly looks that way because according to Netflix’s Q4 2015 earnings report, the company has revealed that they have managed to nab close to 6 million new subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2015 alone!
According to the numbers, they managed to get 1.56 million subscribers in the US alone, and another 4.04 million subscribers in other parts of the world. While this is good, the 1.56 million subscribers was actually below Wall Street’s estimates who expected that Netflix would be able to nab more local subscribers.
However given that Netflix has been around in the US for quite a while now, it is not surprising that the numbers aren’t huge since the market would be maturing by now. That being said, we expect that Netflix’s growth for Q1 2016 to be explosive. Announced at CES 2016, the company revealed their plans to launch in an additional 130 new countries.
This should bring about a massive influx of new subscribers, even though there are reports that due to copyright and licensing issues, Netflix’s catalogue overseas isn’t as extensive compared to the US. The company still has issues with people using VPNs, and let’s not forget that China is still off that list for now. We can only imagine how much bigger Netflix’s numbers could potentially be if China were on board.
