hexo-plus-1[CES 2016] When you watch sci-fi movies like Star Wars, and see all of those droids following their human masters around, don’t you wish that we were living in such a technologically advanced era? It looks like a small step was taken in the right direction with the Hexo+ drone, where it is full well capable of flying by itself autonomously – that is, to take off, take to the skies, and land safely once again. All this after following you, of course. The whole reason behind this is to let the attached camera do all of the video recording so that you have one less thing to worry about, letting you enjoy the moment such as tackling a particularly challenging cycling dirt trail.

There is no piloting involved – the responsive drone will feature a 3-axis gimbal, predictive tracking algorithms and a camera movement mobile app that lets you select how you would like your video to look at the end of the recording. In other words, the Hexo+ drone can be set to follow you wherever you are, and you can choose the corresponding flight trail as it relies on data fusion algorithms to establish your current position based on GPS and phone sensors.

The Hexo+ is good for up to speeds of 45mph, allowing it to keep up with strong winds and the ilk. There are more than 80 custom camera movements, and it achieves 10 to 15 minutes of flight time on a full charge. Do make the most of it with its GoPro compatibility (Hero 3, 3+ and 4 models only). It can even fly in slight drizzles, but it is not waterproof.
