activision-blizzardAccording to a report from a couple of days ago, it was suggested that Activision Blizzard had acquired the assets of Major League Gaming (MLG) for a whopping $46 million. The report was uncorroborated at that time, but for those who are curious about the deal, it looks like it has since been confirmed by MLG.

According to the press release put out by MLG, “The acquisition expands Activision Blizzard’s reach across the rapidly-growing esports ecosystem by adding proven live streaming capabilities and technologies to the Activision Blizzard Media Networks division, led by former ESPN CEO Steve Bornstein and MLG co-founder Mike Sepso.”

For those who are unfamiliar with MLG, the organization has been rather dominant in the world of eSports. It was one of the first few eSports organizations at the start, but over the years it has slowly been overshadowed by newcomers. Hopefully with Activision Blizzard behind them now, it will see a revival, especially when you consider the titles published by the company.

This move is also in line with Activision Blizzard’s recent launch of their own eSports division. Blizzard has also in the past suggested that some of their games, such as World of Warcraft, could possibly be part of eSports, namely its PvP feature where viewers might be interested in watching battleground matches or Arena.
