The Webcam Capture feature in YouTube enables users to record videos with their computer’s webcam without having to upload the video later, there’s some bad news for people who still use this feature, Google is going to shut it down next month. Those who use the feature right now will see a warning message at the top of the screen notifying them that come January 16th, 2016 this feature will no longer be available.
This feature arrived nearly a decade ago in 2006 shortly after YouTube was acquired by Google. It relies upon Adobe Flash and can be accessed through the YouTube upload page.
Since webcams aren’t as great as the cameras video creators now use, there’s really no reason in keeping this feature around for much longer, and it makes sense for Google to finally shut it down.
This feature will be turned off because it is rarely used and is built on technology that is no longer supported,” says the updated support page, while pointing out that it’s going to be possible for users to continue recording webcam videos via apps like Photo Booth on Mac and Camera on Windows and then subsequently upload them through the YouTube website.
The end of this feature won’t affect in any way the ability to cameras on mobile devices to record videos that can then be uploaded directly to the world’s largest video sharing website through its mobile app.
