We have seen cases in the past where cyberbullying and trolling have led to negative consequences, like suicide, and now it seems that over in the UK, insurance company Chubb Insurance has begun to offer the country’s first ever “troll insurance”. As the name suggests, this is an insurance policy that protects you from internet trolls.
When we say protect, we don’t mean that the company will help protect you from trolls, but rather they will protect your life by making sure that you have the financial means to defend yourself in a lawsuit if necessary, help you move homes or change schools if it comes down to that, and in some cases might even help to track down the person(s) responsible for the trolling.
Speaking to The Telegraph, the company’s UK and Ireland private clients manager Tara Parchment said, “We see insurance as helping our clients get back to how they were before the incident occurred–whether it’s an incident that affects their home or as a person. So we still help to restore homes, cars and belongings that have suffered physical harm or damage, but increasingly it’s about the person and how they cope.”
