Update – A report from Den of Geek has revealed the the rumors are false. Saban has since confirmed to them that Power Rangers will not be moving to Netflix.
Power Rangers is a TV show for kids that debuted back in 1993. Many TV shows from back then would have probably come to an end already, but for fans of the series, you guys know that even until today, the Power Rangers franchise is still alive and well. In fact it seems that come 2017, the series will be a Netflix exclusive.
This is according to a report from Collider in which it was reported that the series will be making its way onto Netflix. As it stands, the deal between Saban Brands and Nickelodeon and Bandai America will last until 2016, which is why only in 2017 will the series be changing its home which will be an interesting move.
Given that Netflix has had a lot of success producing its own content, such as House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, and Daredevil just to name a few, it would be interesting to see how the company will apply those talents to a time and tested series and franchise that is the Power Rangers.
Considering that more viewers have started to make the move to digital and consuming their content online, it also makes sense for Power Rangers to finally make that move, especially when you consider how much time kids spend on tablets, smartphones, and computers these days, versus back in the good old days when all we had was the TV.
