One of the reasons one might prefer Waze over Google Maps (despite Google owning both services) is that Waze has more voice alerts. For example it has alerts when it warns you about accidents ahead or heavy traffic. Google Maps on the other hand is more straightforward and usually just gives turn-by-turn navigation.
The good news is that if you’ve always favored Google Maps, Google has recently pushed out an update to the iOS version of the app where it will now be able to provide voice alerts on traffic updates. Basically this means is that if the route you are taking is jammed/congested, the app will alert you via sound.
This is as opposed to the current system in which you will have to look at the map and see whether the road is marked red (which means a traffic jam). That being said, that’s not all the update is bringing to the table. There will be your usual array of bug fixes, and there is also an easy way for users to add new and missing businesses from the sidebar to help keep the map updated.
The updated version of Google Maps is available via the iTunes App Store as a free download, so if you haven’t downloaded the update or the app itself, head on over to grab it.
