Imagine you’re out and about and your phone is running low on battery. If you’re the type that doesn’t like to bring around battery packs or cases, then chances are you might find yourself with a dead phone pretty soon. However if you’re in London, you might want to head on over to the Canary Wharf because that’s where you’ll find the Strawberry Smart Benches.
As you can see in the photos, the Strawberry Smart Bench is basically a bench for public areas. However it is a smart bench because aside from providing users with a place to sit, it is also solar-powered and will be able to allow users to charge their mobile devices, tablets, MP3 players, and more.
It can be found at the Jubilee Park, Cabot Square, Westferry Circus, and in front of Crossrail Station in Canary Wharf. Apart from offering up charging capabilities, the smart bench will also track air quality and noise levels, as well as provide an emergency call button that links directly back to the Canary Whar Help Estate Centre.
There will be four benches that will be installed at the start, but according to Miloš Milisavljević, CEO and founder of Strawberry energy, it is expected to expand in the near future. “We are in negotiations with real estate companies and boroughs in London, so we expect that at least 10 more smart benches like these will be on service to Londoners until the end of this year.”
