A couple of days ago a somewhat suspect rumor popped up online suggesting that Coca-Cola’s chief rival, Pepsi, would be launching a smartphone of their own. We know, it sounds really bizarre but as it turns out, the rumors were actually spot on. The company has since confirmed to Reuters that they are planning to launch mobile phones.
However before you start wondering what’s Pepsi thinking, it’s not as strange as you might think. This is merely a licensing deal, meaning that Pepsi will be officially allowing their partners to use their brand to market mobile phones and accessories. This is more believable than Pepsi actually making and designing their own phones.
According to the Pepsi spokeswoman, “Available in China only, this effort is similar to recent globally licensed Pepsi products which include apparel and accessories.” Unfortunately it would seem that this Pepsi-licensed mobile phone will only be available in China, but then again we’re not sure how many of you guys would have wanted such a device to begin with.
Now in terms of specs, the company did not confirm anything but based on previous leaks, the phone is said to feature a 5.5-inch Full HD display with a MediaTek MT6592 chipset under the hood and accompanied by 2GB of RAM. It is said to sport a 13MP rear-facing camera, a 5MP front-facing camera, a 3,000mAh battery with Android 5.1 calling the shots.
