Apart from its name and the fact that it exists, there’s not much we know about the upcoming Nintendo NX console. There have been many features and functions of the console that have been rumored, but none have been confirmed so far. However with the claims that it will be announced next year, we suppose we will just need to wait a little bit longer.
In fact it seems that we could indeed be looking at a 2016 release, thanks to a report from The Wall Street Journal in which it reports that Nintendo has begun distributing the Nintendo NX’s SDK to third-party developers as we speak. Basically with the SDK, developers will be able to create new games for the platform, or modify existing ones.
The report goes on to add that the NX will be both a home and a mobile console at the same time, with one unit made for home and another unit that can be used in conjunction with the console like the Wii U’s GamePad. However it seems that it could even be taken on the road, meaning that this is like a souped up version of the GamePad.
Given that the Wii U wasn’t exactly a resounding commercial success that Nintendo and some of its fans had hoped, safe to say that there is a lot riding on the Nintendo NX to be successful. Last we heard, the late Nintendo President Satoru Iwata promised that the console would surprise everyone, leading to rumors that it might feature virtual reality.
