It seems that alongside announcing their first mobile game, Miitomo, Nintendo has also taken the wraps off a brand new account system for gamers, which they are calling Nintendo Account. Interestingly enough this account system will allow gamers to create accounts using Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Nintendo Network ID, or your email.
Basically it sounds like Nintendo wants just about everybody to sign up for it. So what is this Nintendo Account and why should you sign up? Through Nintendo Account, gamers will be able to purchase games and add those games to their account. Gamers will also be updated on games that they are playing, like if their account has Mario Kart 8, they will be notified if there is new content being added to the game.
There will also be perks of owning a Nintendo Account, like for your birthday Nintendo could allow you to purchase games at a discounted price. There will be a new points system that seems to take over Club Nintendo whose service ended earlier this year. Gamers can earn points by playing games or by purchasing games.
Those points can also be used to redeem digital content, original merchandise, or a coupon which can then be used to apply a discount to future purchases. Nintendo also adds, “This is also a plan for the future, but we are going to provide our membership service benefits in other real-life facilities such as theme parks, movie theaters and retail outlets.”
This suggests that the points could go beyond gaming, but we guess we’ll have to wait and see how well-received this system is in the first place.
