When we think of Facebook, we think of connecting with friends, family, co-workers, and so on. We use it catch up on the latest news, gossip, entertain ourselves with viral videos, funny images, and more, and now it looks like Facebook wants you to use its platform if you plan on doing shopping online.
While Facebook has had some form of e-commerce available in the past, it seems that the social network is making an even bigger push by adding a dedicated shopping section to its service, as you can see in the screenshots above. Instead of it being a convenience to be able to shop via the brand’s page itself, with this move Facebook wants you to do your shopping via the social network.
This feature has yet to go prime time as only a handful of retailers have signed up for it. This is because at the moment, Facebook is just conducting a trial where it will be limited to a small set of users, and presumably if all goes according to plan and if this is a feature that many are interested in that Facebook will begin rolling it out on a larger scale.
So, what do you guys make of Facebook’s bigger push into the e-commerce market? Will Facebook ever become a platform that you will want to do your shopping on? Or are retailers like Amazon still a much more attractive destination?
