So we all know that the Xbox One will be getting backwards compatibility. This basically means that the console will be able to play Xbox 360 games. Pretty cool, right? Unfortunately Sony confirmed that no such feature would be coming to the PlayStation 4, which we’re sure is a bit of a bummer.
However the good news is that it looks like there could be some classic PlayStation 2 games that could be arriving on the PS4 in the near future. This is thanks to recent ratings by PEGI – the European ratings board – who revealed several classic titles in the process, but unfortunately no dates were mentioned.
These titles include Ape Escape 2, Dark Chronicle (also known as Dark Cloud 2 in some markets), and Twisted Metal: Black. Interestingly while PEGI lists the games as available, we’re not seeing them just yet, so perhaps the dates provided by PEGI are simply a placeholder, at least for now.
Also it should be noted that prior to this, only the PlayStation 3 was capable of accessing games from the PS2’s Classics range, but based on these listings, it would seem to suggest that Sony has successfully brought over some of its classics onto the PS4. No word on whether we can expect more titles in the future, but if you remember playing any of these, hopefully you’ll be able to get your hands on them soon.
