Last week a mysterious countdown appeared on Pebble’s website. It was speculated that the countdown might be counting down to the release of the 3.0 firmware for the original Pebble, which had been released for the Pebble Time. However according to the information we got from a trusted source, the announcement is said to be for a new watch.
The countdown will expire on the 23rd of September which is when we can only assume an announcement of sorts will be made. The announcement on Wednesday also coincides with Pebble’s CEO Eric Migicovsky’s appearance at TechCrunch’s Disrupt on Day 3, so it hardly seems like a coincidence, although we have to wonder if the new smartwatch will be announced on stage then.
So what is this new watch from Pebble we can look forward to? Our source has informed us that Pebble will be jumping on the round smartwatch bandwagon and will be releasing one of their own. It is said to arrive in two sizes and will sport a 0.9-inch screen, which we have to admit is rather small compared to the others out there, but perhaps Pebble could be aiming for a more dainty/elegant look with it.
It is also said to come in a metal finish. Unfortunately we do not have any photos but from the description, it sounds like it could easily pass off as a regular timepiece made from metal (we are hoping it is stainless steel). That is also all the information we have on the alleged device for now, but based on Pebble’s countdown, we should learn more on the 23rd of September which is this coming Wednesday, so be sure to check back with us then for all the details.
