So a couple of days ago, Apple announced their new Apple TV and now it looks like Google might have an answer for that as well. According to a recent FCC filing, a device from Google has been spotted which some believe could be the new Nexus Player, an update from last year’s model.
Given that the Nexus Player was launched in October 2014, we suppose it makes sense that a potential refresh is in the works for 2015 around the same time. So what makes us think that this is the Nexus Player? The folks at Phandroid have spotted some clues that points towards it being the device.
This includes 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi radios, and Bluetooth LE. It features 1 LAN port, 4 USB ports, and 1 micro USB port. The FCC filing has also referred to it as a multimedia device that isn’t typically used for smartphones or tablets. These are also some of the features that they point out could dismiss the speculation that maybe the FCC filing is for the ASUS OnHub router.
The FCC filing also seems to suggest that it could be getting ready for its announcement, and given how the rumors claim that the new Nexus phones will be unveiled on the 29th of September, we suppose it’s not a stretch to think that the Google Nexus Player (2015) model will be announced then as well.
