Last year fashion Ralph Lauren unveiled its hi-tech shirt during the US Open. Now if you were wondering when you might be able to get your hands on it, you won’t have to wait much longer because come next Thursday, the Ralph Lauren PoloTech shirt will be officially going up for sale, whereby if you’re so inclined you can go ahead and purchase one for yourself.
Now for those who are hearing about it for the first time, basically this is a shirt designed for fitness enthusiasts. It will come with a sensor that is attached to the shirt around the rib cage area. This sensor will be able to pick up all sorts of data on the wearer, like steps taken, heart rate, breathing depth, and energy exertion.
That being said, the shirts are currently designed for men but according to David Lauren, the executive VP for advertising and marketing, he claims that women’s smart shirts are on their way. Lauren also revealed that the company is working on more casual shirts, like polo shirts where they can be worn all day and casually and not just for sports.
The shirt will also work with an accompanying app that at the moment, is only available on iOS and will not work with third-party apps or trackers. If this is still of interest to you, you can expect to fork out a whopping $295 for the PoloTech shirt.
