We happen to live in an age where we are bombarded by advertisements no matter where we go. It somehow cannot be avoided at all, and it looks like even the popular social network, Facebook, will be taking up a new ad format that will deliver promotions right to your eyeballs in a more annoying manner than that of static ads – through animated GIFs.
It seems that Facebook is starting to ease up on the ban where flashy banner ads are concerned, enabling businesses to post promotional animated GIFs. Word on the street has it that Facebook has started to test out new ads with a few brands, where among them include Wendy’s. In that animated GIF ad, it depicts a salad being made, as well as Kaut, a Brazilian Coca-Cola drink, jumping aboard the bandwagon as well.
It looks like Facebook will be phasing out the small, sidebar ads that are more of an inconvenience than anything else, and animated GIF ads might be worth exploring for the social network, although reception by Facebook users remain to be seen. Would you like to have your social network experience interrupted by a flying Nyan Cat from time to time? Only time will tell, but frankly, the less ads that we see, the better.
