So at Gamescom last week, Blizzard announced World of Warcraft: Legion. This will be the next expansion and according to Blizzard, the company already has plans for what will come after that. However is it possible that one day there will be too many expansions and that a sequel would be a better idea?
Unfortunately for hopefuls, this will not be happening. Speaking to IGN at Gamescom, World of Warcraft’s executive produce J. Allen Brack revealed that there will not be a sequel to World of Warcraft. Brack cites MMO sequel failures as being one of the reasons why he does not think that a sequel will work.
According to Brack, “You know, there’s not really a great model for a successful sequel MMO. Virtually all of them have been very significant failures and I think we’re very conscious of that – not just small failures, either.” He also adds that as far as MMOs are concerned, Blizzard is only focusing on World of Warcraft for now.
“We’re not actively working on anything on the MMO front that is not World of Warcraft. We were completely dedicated to the Warlords of Draenor expansion and now the Legion expansion,” he said. In the meantime Blizzard has admitted that they are open to the idea of a new Warcraft RTS game, although we have to admit we’re curious as to how this will fit into the ever-shifting world that is World of Warcraft.
