It was confirmed that when the OnePlus 2 was announced that the flat red USB-C cable we saw in leaked photos was indeed the cable that the company was planning on using with the smartphone. It is a rather striking looking cable and the good news is that OnePlus could be selling it by itself soon.
As it stands, the company is selling its micro USB cable by itself where it is priced at $10, but according to OnePlus CEO Carl Pei, they expect that its USB-C cable will be priced much cheaper at $5, but for now they will not be selling it separately, at least not until more stock has been made available.
This is good news especially when you consider that at the moment, there aren’t that many USB-C cables around. While USB-C is expected to become the new standard of connectivity in the future, it isn’t as widely adopted yet. As it stands only a handful of devices use it, such as Apple’s 12-inch Retina MacBook and Google’s new Chromebook Pixel, just to name a few.
The cable might also come in handy in the future should you plan on future-proofing yourself and your devices, although we’re not sure what the cable would cost if it were to be sold by other manufacturers, but OnePlus could be a manufacturer to keep in mind if you want to stock up.
