If you grew up in the 1980’s or if you’re a PC enthusiasts, you might be familiar with the Commodore brand. They are basically the company that helped to usher in the PC revolution, but fast forward to today, the brand has since been eclipsed by other PC brands such as Dell, Lenovo, HP, Acer, ASUS, and etc.
Interestingly enough it looks like Commodore has decided to try their hand at a different market and have since made a return by launching their own smartphone. Dubbed the Commodore PET (named after one of the company’s iconic products), this is an Android-based smartphone whose specs would make this a mid-range phone at best.
It will feature an aluminum frame with a polycarbonate backplate that can be swapped out. It will also be accompanied by a 5.5-inch IPS Full HD display with Gorilla Glass 3, a MediaTek processor clocked at 1.7GHz, a 13MP rear-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture, an 8MP front-facing camera, a 3,000mAh battery, dual-SIM support and 4G connectivity.
It will also come with two emulators preinstalled thus allowing smartphone owners to run classic games on their phones. According to WIRED, they were told that the emulators are basically customized versions of the VICE C64 emulator and the Uae4All2-SDL Amiga emulator. The phone is expected to launch later this week across Europe with the model with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage priced at around $300, and the 3GB RAM with 32GB of storage model priced at around $365.
