Back in the day of the feature phone, companies such as Sony would launch devices that would distinguish itself from the competition based on what it could do. For example the company would create Cyber-shot phones that specialize in taking photos, and would launch Walkman phones that would be catered towards music lovers.
However with smartphones that can do everything, there really isn’t a need for such phones anymore, or is there? Apparently LG thinks that such devices might still be warranted as the company has officially unveiled the LG Band Play. This is a device whose specs aren’t necessarily of the highest order, but apparently it is catered towards users who prioritize their music listening experience.
According to LG, this is thanks to the handset’s 1 watt speakers which they claim will offer up richer and clearer sound, at least compared to other smartphones. There will also be a pair of premium earphones bundled in case you prefer listening to your music privately. Interestingly enough the phone comes with a Focus Mode which basically disables all calls and data to let you concentrate at the task at hand.
In Focus Mode, messages sent to the phone will be replied to automatically, letting the other person know that you’re busy. As for the rest of the specs, the LG Band Play will feature a 5-inch 720p HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, 13MP camera, a 5MP front-facing camera, 2GB of RAM, and a 2,300mAh battery.
It is unclear if the phone will arrive stateside as it was only announced in South Korea where it will retail for roughly $355 when it launches this week.
