Contactless payment is starting to catch on. We already have plenty of options at the moment such as Apple Pay, Android Pay, as well as options offered by local banks and credit card companies around the world. In fact over in the UK where Apple Pay is scheduled for a launch, the Barclays bank has introduced their own form of contactless payment.
Dubbed bPay, this is Barclay’s own take on contactless payment and it was actually launched a while ago. However with the new launch, it will come in a variety of form of factors such as in wristband form, a key fob, or even a sticker. All of these methods are contactless and it is really up to users to decide which method works best for them. For example if you don’t have the latest iPhones but want to use contactless payment, you can stick the bPay sticker on your phone to enable it.
The key fob is a good idea to keep on a keychain, while the wristband might come in handy for joggers who’d rather not bring their phone or wallet out with them. Best of all it seems that despite it being owned by Barclays, users won’t need to be a Barclays customer in order to get their hands on the device. All they’d have to do is transfer money from their own bank account into their bPay wallet and they’re good to go.
bPay is expected to go on sale come 1st of July and will be priced at £14.99 for the bPay sticker, the bPay fob is priced at £19.99, and the bPay band will come with a £24.99 price tag.
