Is there a difference in weight in the 38mm and 42mm Apple Watch models? Obviously since one is bigger than the other, but it seems that there is a weight difference in the Apple Watch bands. No, we’re not talking about the difference in the rubber bands versus leather versus metal bands of the different models, but rather between the Apple Watch sport straps.
As it turns out, it seems that there is a difference in weight when comparing Apple Watch Sport bands and the difference will vary depending on the color that you have chosen. Now all the colors will have different weights and it has been found that the white band weighs the heaviest. According to Apple’s website, it will weigh 47g for the the white band with the 38mm model, and 51g for the 42mm model.
It also turns out that the black model weighs the least at 37g for the 38mm Apple Watch and 40g for the 42mm Apple Watch. We can’t be sure why there is a difference in weight, but perhaps the amount of paint/dye needed to create a particular color required more materials/mixes, thus resulting in a slightly heavier strap. For example a simple black band might be easier to make than the white version, or at least that’s what we’re speculating.
In any case we highly doubt that the difference in weight will matter to users or if it will even be felt at all, but for those who are curious about their devices or if weight truly, truly matters to you, then perhaps this information might come in handy. In the meantime if you’d like to see the entire weight list, just head on over to the Apple Watch page, click the model, and scroll to the bottom of the page for the details.
