According to a report from Bloomberg, the brand’s owner LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE announced that they device would be released this November and it will be priced at $1,400 which is significantly more than the majority of smartwatches out there, but given that this bears the TAG Heuer brand, perhaps some might be able to justify its price.
The design and specs remain unknown but rumors are suggesting it will be based on the TAG Heuer Carrera (pictured above). The design is expected to remain the same but will be a “smarter” watch which sounds a bit like what Breitling is doing with their B55 smartwatch, a device that looks like a regular watch on the surface but comes with smart and connected features.
According to Jean-Claude Biver, who heads the watchmaking activities at the company, he hopes that the Apple Watch actually goes on to do well. Biver claims that this will help differentiate the company’s offerings and attract customers who’d rather not have the same product as the masses. “I hope they sell millions and millions and millions of them. The more they sell the more a few people will want something different and come to TAG Heuer.”
In the meantime TAG Heuer is one of the few Swiss watchmakers who have decided to cave in to the smartwatch trend. Other notable brands such as IWC and Patek Philippe have publicly stated that they have no plans to start making smartwatches of their own.
