The Sony Xperia Z4 has yet to be officially announced and according to a new rumor from Android Origin, they claim that the Sony Xperia Z5 along with its variants such as the Z5 Ultra and Z5 Compact are in the works and could be launched by the end of the year. This certainly seems to be going against earlier rumors that suggested that Sony might only have one flagship phone moving forward.
The report also claims that the upcoming handsets are expected to feature a brand new design. So far Sony’s Xperia Z-series of phones more or less sport a similar design with some minor changes here and there, but nothing major unlike LG or Samsung who tend to make pretty huge changes with every major release. It has also been suggested that we could be looking forward to new hardware such as fingerprint sensors.
For those who feel a bit “cheated” that the Sony Xperia Z4 might only feature a Full HD display, then maybe holding out for the Xperia Z5 might be a better idea. Android Origin has heard that the Xperia Z5 could come with a QHD display. It will also come with a whopping 4GB of RAM and new camera sensors, but OIS is apparently not one of the upcoming new features.
In any case it should be taken with a grain of salt for now. Like we said, there have been signs that Sony might only want to release one flagship smartphone this year, and with the Xperia Z4 having yet to be launched, it seems unlikely that Sony would follow up with a newer and better phone so quickly, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled all the same.
