Nintendo 3DS gamers are probably more than familiar with the various Professor Layton titles that have made its way onto the handheld console, but it looks like if you’re looking forward to the next Professor Layton game on your 3DS, you might be waiting quite a while because it looks like its developer, Level-5, will not be bringing the game to the 3DS.
Instead the developer has announced that the next Professor Layton title will be arriving on mobile devices instead. Yes, you heard that right, gamers will be able to get their hands on the next Professor Layton title on their smartphones where it seems it will be an exclusive. However it also seems that there will be some big changes to the game as it will be more of a card game with fortune telling elements, versus the story-like structure and cutscenes that gamers are probably very familiar with by now.
It is unclear as to why Level-5 has gone with that new direction especially since smartphones with touchscreen displays should offer up the same functions as a 3DS. That being said before gamers start rejoicing, there is a bit of bad news and that is the game will only be released this summer in Japan on iOS and Android devices, and there is no word on if and when the games will be released stateside, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for it all the same.
