The Apple Watch is a completely new product category that Apple will be entering, and safe to say that many are looking to see if Apple can revolutionize the wearables market the same way they did for smartphones and tablets. To that extent Apple will want to get the word out about the Apple Watch as much as possible, which means a lot of advertising and marketing needs to be done.
According to a report from Reuters, it has been revealed that Apple has spent a whopping $38 million in advertising alone in the last month. This is according to data gathered by iSpot.tv who tracks US TV ads and digital responses in real time. Is $38 million a lot? Sure it is, especially when you compare it to the $42 million that Apple spent over the past five months advertising its iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
JMP analyst Alex Gauna says, “The iPhone 6 was a barn burner from the get-go. But with the Apple Watch, which is new product category with less familiarity, it makes sense that they’d go after it with more intensity.” It will be interesting to see if Apple can leverage their brand and the loyalty of their customers to help make the Apple Watch a success.
Like we said early reviews of the wearable haven’t exactly been stellar but considering this is a first-gen device, we reckon there are probably plenty of areas Apple could improve upon for its future wearables. In the meantime the Apple Watch can be pre-ordered starting tomorrow and will be released on the 24th of this month.
