Has there ever been a time where your phone, tablet, or smartwatch goes off and you’re just too lazy to check your notifications? What if looking down at your mobile device constantly is too distracting? Would a smart mirror be able to solve that for you? Because that is what one Redditor by the name of Nick Nothom did.
According to Nothom, the reason behind the creation of the smart mirror was to create a shift in how information is acquired. Nothom writes, “It is a wall mounted mirror which displays relevant items to the user such as weather, scheduling, messages, and other fields of interest. The mirror will solve a problem that many people experience each day and night; getting information without distraction.”
Nothom compares his mirror to more traditional devices like wall clocks where people can find out what time it is at a glance. He also talks about how airports have huge displays that shows the timetable of flights so people can quickly find out where they need to go, all of which will not distract the user with unnecessary information.
The mirror was created by Nothom using store-bought materials, all of which adds up to a little under $500, but unfortunately Nothom did not provide any instructions as to how one might go about creating a device of their own. It’s an intriguing idea, but is this a piece of furniture you wouldn’t mind placing in your home?
