Last week we reported that Microsoft is working on bringing Windows 10 to devices running on 512MB of RAM. Considering that not all Windows Phone handsets pack high-end specs, ensuring that they work on lower-end devices is one way Microsoft will be able to keep their users happy.
While that is good news for Windows Phone users with low-end handsets, there are apparently some caveats to that. It seems that users with devices with 512MB of RAM might not get the entire Windows 10 experience. According to a tweet by Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore, it seems that some features might be omitted.
Belfiore also confirmed that handsets like the popular Lumia 520 will be getting the update as well. “Hey all: we ARE working on Win10 for 512MB, including 520. Our ambition is to make #Win10 available for these devices but features may vary” It is unclear as to what kind of features will be omitted given that not much is known about the platform at the moment.
We suppose in some ways it makes sense. In fact that is something Apple has been doing with iOS releases, where older handsets that might not pack more powerful hardware will not get certain features, but either hopefully we will learn more about it soon.
