Plex today announced the launch of its next-generation app meant for Roku. The company calls it one of its “most popular clients of all time,” and appears to be quite ecstatic about launching an entirely new app for Roku. The updated app brings improved visuals and content discovery feature. Users get a broader view of their video content with custom screens built in that bring the user experience in line with what Plex users get on PlayStation, Xbox and TV clients.
Plex says that the new app is incredibly fast and smooth, which is always a good nothing, nobody likes a sluggish app. Performance is often the main point that users judge an app upon and Plex’s claims make it seem like Roku users will give the new app two thumbs up.
The new app supports video and music playback, Plex’s new discovery interface, Cinema Trailers, Plex Home and Plex Companion. Photos, playlists and channels are not yet supported but Plex says that they will be added soon to the Roku app.
Supported models include Roku 1/2/3, Roku TV and the Roku Stick. Users who purchased the app in the past will get it as a free update once the preview period ends.
To get the preview release users have to log into their Roku account here and follow these instructions.
