As it stands, Full HD displays on our smartphones are more or less still the standard. QHD displays are starting to catch on, but safe to say that they aren’t as prevalent yet. Perhaps that could change this year. unless of course some OEMs decide to make the leap to a 4K display, which is what Samsung is apparently going to do.
According to the rumors, Samsung is said to be working on a smartphone that could very well pack a 4K display. Given that the rumors of the Galaxy S6 claim that the handset will only feature a QHD display, there is a good chance that the handset in question could be the Galaxy Note 5 which should be released in the later part of the year.
The rumors go on to claim that the Galaxy Note 5 will pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 64-bit chipset alongside its 4K display. Now this does sound like quite a stretch, and we can’t imagine how much power it would take to run such a display meaning that either Samsung will have to cram a larger battery or we could be facing a phone with a very short battery life.
However like we said QHD displays haven’t exactly become mainstream yet so the jump to 4K does seem a bit sudden. In any case take it with huge amounts of salt for now, but what do you guys make of this? Do you think that we could see a phone with a 4K display launch later this year?
