They say there’s no such thing as a free lunch, but apparently that’s not true over in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou. The city places host to a Korean eatery by the name of Jeju Island and it seems that the restaurant is currently running a promotion in which the first 50 people who are deemed the most handsome or beautiful get to eat for free.
So how does this work? Well restaurant goers who want to try their luck at eating for free will have to get their faces scanned and photographed. The results are then judged by a panel of local plastic surgeons who will then decide if these restaurant goers are good looking enough to warrant a free meal.
While we have to admit that the idea is slightly amusing, we reckon it can pass off as being somewhat degrading too, not to mention rather objectifying as well. In fact local authorities are not impressed by the restaurant’s efforts and have since removed the sign that reads, “Free meal for goodlooking”.
That being said the restaurant’s owners don’t appear to be too fazed by the takedown and have vowed that the promotion will continue. We can’t speak for the restaurant’s food quality, but if you’re in the area and want to see if you qualify for a free meal, why not?
