Earlier this year Google announced that they would be releasing an Android One series of handsets. These are devices designed for emerging markets that will come with affordable price tags and will feature reference designs so that OEMs looking to produce such a handset can easily hop on board the Android One bandwagon.
Now several Android One handsets have since been released and it looks like we can expect a second wave of Android One devices in 2015. This was previously rumored back in September but recently an executive from Karbonn had revealed slightly more specific dates. According to the executive, Google’s next wave of Android One handsets could arrive by the first quarter of 2015.
Given that Karbonn is one of the Android One launch partners, we guess it makes sense that they would know what Google has planned, although with Google having yet to make a formal announcement, do take it with a grain of salt for now. It’s good to see that Google is plodding on with their Android One plan, despite the initial response being fairly lackluster.
In terms of hardware specs it is unclear as to what we might be able to expect from the second wave of Android One handsets but if the Q1 2015 launch is to be believed, we guess we might not have to wait too long to find out.
