HTC has recently re-entered into the tablet scene with the Nexus 9 after having gone a few years without a tablet, especially in the face of the fact that the HTC Flyer wasn’t exactly a resounding success. That being said, initial impressions of the Nexus 9 by HTC seem to be generally positive, but is that enough motivation for HTC to keep churning out devices?
Well according to a recent report from Focus Taiwan, it seems that HTC has plans on launching a tablet with their own branding come 2015. Apparently this is according to HTC’s CFO who allegedly confirmed that a HTC-branded tablet is indeed in the works. The report also claims that the company’s CFO has mentioned that they are open to the idea of co-branding opportunities, much like what HTC and Google did.
Assuming the report is accurate, it does seem to line up with what we had heard earlier this year. We had heard that HTC was working on two other tablets that are not of the Nexus variety, so there is a slight possibility that the reports could be true. Focus Taiwan also reports that according to HTC North Asia’s President Jack Tong, the company’s next tablet will not be a cheap tablet.
Tong claims that cheap tablets are not profitable and that small-sized tablets are starting to become less desired thanks to large screen phones becoming more prolific. “There is actually a bit more room for growth and product differentiation in the high-end and mid-tier tablet segments.” In any case what do you guys think? Would you like to see more HTC tablets in 2015?
